At West Dillon, you can be athletic, smart, and loyal, but the most popular girl in school is still out of your league. Landry Clarke made his way from the Panthers' stands to the field, has the GPA of a valedictorian, and stayed true to his best friend Matt Saracen, but the beautiful, blonde, bad-girl Tyra Collette always remained out of reach until a frightening incident brought them both together. From then on, Landry was in love. Despite being taken advantage of by her at times, Landry loved Tyra with the same tenacity he brought to every other part of his life. And he encouraged her and believed in her more than anyone as she reached for her dream of attending college. When she got it, Landry had to say goodbye, staying in Dillon to finish his senior year while still carrying a torch for her. But not without proving that with a lot of love, patience, and perseverance, nice guys can finish first.
